24PearlStreet, the Fine Arts Work Center's online writing program, emphasizes the writing part of writing online. There are online programs that require special equipment, software, and training before you can sign up for a workshop. That's not what we're doing. We're making the online part simple and transparent — freeing you to focus on your teacher, your classmates, and on doing your best work.

Our teachers, all nationally-recognized writers, will help you achieve the goals set forth in their syllabi with discussions, writing assignments, and critiques. You'll finish the term with renewed inspiration for your writing, and fresh ideas for ways to move forward in your work.

Here's how it works:

Prospective students submit applications and writing samples through the website.

Faculty review applications and select students.

All workshops are capped at 15 students.

Each workshop has its own online classroom, featuring a blog where you can read assignments, post your work, have your work critiqued, and comment on your classmates' work.

Students receive individual messages from teachers via email, and group messages from teachers via the blog and email.

There is no "live" or synchronous component, so you can do the work when it's convenient for you.

All workshops honor the Fine Arts Work Center's ethic of community and accomplishment, allowing you to do your best work with like-minded writers when you want from wherever you are.
