FAWC Hosts Artists' Forum The Massachusetts Cultural Council, together with FAWC, convened a public forum called Resources for Artists/Artists as Resources. Moderated by FAWC Executive Director Hunter O'Hanian, panelists included writer and FAWC Programs Administrator Melanie Braverman, Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts Executive Director James Grace, Jero Nesson from Emerson Umbrella/Artist Housing & Live Work Concerns, Debra Waxe Oakes from Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, Scott Penn, Executive Director of Outer Cape Health Services, and Debra Woodman, of Massachusetts Advocates for the Arts, Sciences, and Humanities. Panelists covered a wide range of topics of particular interest to area artists, including health care, affordable housing, and work space. MCC staffers also met with a group of former MCC grant recipients from Provincetown, to talk about ways the MCC might further support artists and writers. Discussed were valuable programs for artists and writers such as the MCC's Professional Development Grant, which provides matching tuition money for artists and writers who want to take courses relevant to their work. Applications are reviewed every month except June. For information on this or other programs, contact the MCC, 120 Boylston Street, 2nd Floor, Boston, MA, 02116-4600; call (617) 727-3668; or visit their web site at www.massculturalcouncil.org. Artists and writers from other states are encouraged to contact their local and state arts councils to learn about comparable programs.
