Dune Shack Summer
Former Fellows of FAWC are eligible to apply for two-week residencies in the Outer Cape Artists in Residency Consortium at the Marge Gelb dune shack, located in the National Seashore in Provincetown. Residencies run from mid-May to mid-October 2000. Contact the FAWC office for applications.
Winter Film Series
For the third consecutive year, the Work Center will offer a Winter Film Series, selected by the 1999/2000 Fellows. Contact the office, or check your monthly calendar, for film titles.
October One Campaign
Former Fellows will again contribute to one of our biggest fundraising efforts, entitled the October One Campaign -- Former Fellows Giving Back to the Work Center. Since the campaign's inception in 1991, Former Fellows have contributed over $120,000 to the Work Center's programs.
The October One Campaign is an opportunity for Former Fellows to give back to the Work Center, regardless of the size of the individual gift. "When I went into my Fellowship year, I was a waitress. When I came out, I was a novelist... By accepting my application, they said they believed in my work at a time when I most needed someone to believe in it," said award-winning novelist Ann Patchett, a 1990 Writing Fellow and
former Summer Faculty member.
Digging Up the Past
FAWC is busy trying to preserve its rich artistic history. We're conducting interviews with many of the Work Center's founders, and those active in our early years. If you have any documents relating to the founding of the Work Center, please let us know so that we can add them to the growing archive.
Call for Volunteers
As the Work Center grows, our responsibilities multiply. We're now working to capacity and welcome extra help. If you're in the Provincetown area, either full time, or seasonally, please consider volunteering -- even a few hours a week makes a significant difference. Everyone has a talent we can use! Call (508) 487-9960 or drop by our office at 24 Pearl Street.
Returning Residency Program
Former Fellows are eligible to stay at the Work Center during May, June and September. Returning Residency Program applications were recently mailed to all qualifying individuals. If you are interested and have not sent back your application, please do so immediately, as space in 2000 is filling up. Call 508-487-9960 for additional applications, if necessary.
Change in Deadline
Hopefully, by now you've heard that the application postmark deadline for Winter Writing Fellowships has been changed to DECEMBER 1. For years, the application deadlines for both visual artists and writers was February 1; however, the Writing Committee changed the date in order to better accommodate the ever increasing number of applications. Please share this information with anyone considering applying. If they have missed the December 1 deadline this year, encourage them to call the Work Center about filing a late application.
Applications for the Winter Fellowship Program can be obtained from the office; by sending a SASE to 24 Pearl Street, Provincetown, MA, 02657;
or by downloading the application from our website.
The postmark deadline for Visual Arts applications remains FEBRUARY 1.
