Donations Needed for 24th Annual Benefit Auction at FAWC
Saturday, August 19, 2000

The Fine Arts Work Center will hold its 24th annual benefit auction on Saturday, August 19. The buffet reception will begin at 6:00 p.m., and the Live Auction will begin at 8:00 p.m. with auctioneer Stephen Fletcher of Skinner, Inc. The Auction Preview will begin on Wednesday, August 9 in the Hudson D. Walker Gallery, with an opening reception on Friday, August 11 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Donations of art, antiques and collectibles are now being sought. FAWC welcomes paintings, drawings, monoprints, antiques, jewelry, and collectibles. This year's Artists' Project features birdhouses by more than twenty local artists. More than 20 local artists have also created prints for the auction as part of FAWC's annual Monoprint Project. The Work Center welcomes donations weekdays from 9:00 to 5:00, and will be happy to assist in picking up work.

The summer benefit auction--a festive community event--is the Work Center's major annual fundraiser. The event helps support the Winter Residency Program, which, for more than 30 years has brought twenty artists and writers to Provincetown for seven months of uninterrupted work from October through May. The resident fellows are provided with housing, studios and stipends during the crucial early years of their careers. Fellows have gone on to win every major national prize and honor for visual artists, poets and fiction writers, to publish books and exhibit in the nation's major galleries and museums. Many teach in colleges and universities, and have continued to make valuable contributions to FAWC's Summer Program of Workshops and to Provincetown's creative community.

If you have items you'd like to donate, or if you would like more information, please call the Fine Arts Work Center at (508) 487-9960.
