Hudson D. Walker Gallery - 2001

The Hudson D. Walker Gallery enjoyed a successful summer 2001 season, with exhibitions by Maryland Fellow Emily Tellez, the Hand Hollow Fellows and George Rickey and Ohio Arts Council Fellow Bonnie Dolin.

The second half of a two-part show of Small Works by Former Fellows, 1985-2000, including pieces by over 40 artists, traveled from the Hudson D. Walker Gallery to the Cape Museum of Fine Arts in Dennis.

LOUISE BOURGEOIS
SUMMER 2002

World-renowned sculptor Louise Bourgeois recently created the Louise Bourgeois Endowed Fellowship at the Fine Arts Work Center. The money generated from this fund will be applied to the costs associated with one Visual Arts Fellow in perpetuity.

A member of the Work Center's Board of Trustees for many years, Louise has a long-standing history of generously supporting emerging artists.

To commemorate the creation of the fellowship, there will be a solo exhibition of Louise's work in Summer 2002 at the Hudson D. Walker Gallery.

Last year's effort to fully fund the Alan Dugan/Judith Shahn Endowed Fellowship was completed. To commemorate the fellowship's creation, Dugan gave two readings at the Work Center and Judith Shahn exhibited her work in the gallery. Small Works by friends of Dugan and Judith, coordinated by former Fellows Bob Bailey and Paul Bowen, hung concurrently with Judith's show. A silent auction of these donated pieces raised over $5,000 to benefit the Dugan/Shahn Endowed Fellowship.

The Mary Hackett show, held in June and curated by Keith Althaus, was one of the season's most popular exhibitions, featuring a series of paintings of the Connecticut Avenue Bridge in Washington, D.C. along with other rarely shown works. Selina Trieff also curated a show of rarely seen works, focusing on portraits from the Town-Owned Art Collection.

The 2002 summer season at the Hudson D. Walker Gallery promises to be exciting as well, with an exhibition of Louise Bourgeoiss sculpture; a show of drawings by cartoonists Al Jaffee and Howie Schneider; a Former Fellows show to be curated by Jim Peters, Visual Arts Committee Chair; a three-person exhibition featuring the work of the 2002 Visual Arts Jury and others.
