The Hudson D Walker Gallery

The Hudson D. Walker Gallery enjoyed a tremendously successful summer season in 2002. Starting with a well-attended exhibition by Jessica Damen, the 2001 Maryland Institute Fellow, the schedule progressed with one sensational show after another. Jim Peters curated the Former Fellows 1985-1986 exhibition, featuring the work of Larry Dobens, Sharon Horvath, Charles Spurrier, Ritsuko Taho, Quentin Walter, Garry Mitchell, Keith Strahan, Maryalice Johnston, and Vicky Tomayko. The show was paired with a reading by former Fellows Heidi Jon Schmidt and Candice Reffe.

The Louise Bourgeois Exhibition, curated by Paul Bowen, brought recent works by the grande dame of sculpture to Provincetown for the first time. Al Jaffee and Howie Schneider joined for a two-person show that amused and entertained with thought-provoking cartoons and drawings, and also gave some insight to the artists' serious sides with paintings and sculptures. The 2002 Visual Arts Jury, comprised of Ellen Gallagher, Nayland Blake, and Lisa Yuskavage, while disparate in styles, explored many of the same issues in their works, creating a cohesive and sophisticated showing. Salvatore and Josephine Del Deo garnered rave reviews; it was only the second time the husband-and-wife team has shown together. The Stop Time Exhibition, curated by Sara London and Dorothy Antczak, gathered the works of photographers Amy Arbus, Rachel Brown, Norma Holt, Nicholas Kahn and Richard Selesnick, Paula Horn Kotis, Carlotta Luke, Constantine Manos, Joel Meyerowitz, Daniel Ranalli, Marian Roth, and Alex Webb for a truly spectacular show. A panel discussion exploring issues in contemporary photography complemented the exhibition.

The Hudson D. Walker Gallery schedule for 2003 forecasts another impressive season, with an exhibition by Karin Horlbeck, the 2002 Maryland Institute Fellow; a Former Fellows Exhibition to be curated by Bert Yarborough; a two-person show displaying the works of Philip Malicoat and Jim Forsberg; an exhibition, to be curated by Paul Resika, highlighting pieces from the Cape Museum of Fine Arts; an exhibition featuring the works of Board members Michael Mazur and Gil Franklin; a show by the 2003 Ohio Arts Council Fellow; and a photography exhibition headlining portraits.
