Fall Workshops & Events

After Labor Day, Provincetown empties. The seasonal population dwindles and Commercial Street, a sea of bodies in the summer, becomes a stretch of street again. The pace slows, and the throngs of tourists disappear from the shops and beaches. At the Work Center, the Summer Program, with its magnitude of classes and events, is already a memory and 24 Pearl Street begins to prepare for the arrival of new Fellows in October.

This calm edge of autumn is an ideal time for the Fall Workshop Program. The Fall Workshops, offered on six weekends from early October through mid-November, are focused, suffused with a concentrated intensity. This past season the faculty included long-time favorites Cynthia Huntington, Joel Janowitz, Martha Rhodes, Liz Rosenberg, Selina Trieff, Paul Lisicky, Mark Wunderlich, Peter Madden, Amy Bloom, Olga Broumas, David Gates, and Jim Peters. New to the Work Center’s Fall faculty roster, Dean Albarelli, Catherine Bowman, and Frank Gaspar all taught successful workshops.

In conjunction with the workshops, a full schedule of readings and slide talks by faculty members filled the Stanley Kunitz Common Room each Saturday night.

FAWC Fall Workshops are offered in partnership with Campus Provincetown, a consortium of non-profit educational groups working to augment Provincetown’s off-season economy, including the Center for Coastal Studies, Provincetown Art Association and Museum, Castle Hill Center for the Arts, Provincetown Theatre Company/Narrow Land Arts, and Cape Cod Community College.
