Shankpainter

Shankpainter features poems, stories and other compositions by the Writing Fellows of the Fine Arts Work Center. Published every spring, these journals represent works inspired and shaped by Provincetown and the Work Center experience; pieces formed and fashioned during the seven-month stretch of the Fellowship. Within the pages are literary gems, passages with the power to transport, to incite, to inspire, to impassion. Occasionally there are excerpts from novels and short stories that have gone on to receive major prizes and awards; Shankpainter 38 contains an early version of a story that was included in Jhumpa Lahiri’s Pulitzer- winning collection Interpreter of Maladies.

Shankpainter is edited by the writing Fellows, and is a culmination of their time in Provincetown. If you would like a copy of the current issue of Shankpainter or selected back issues, please call or email the office (508-487-9960 or general@fawc.org). We’d be happy to send one to you. In addition, excerpts from Shankpainter features poems, stories and other compositions by the Writing Fellows of the Fine Arts Work Center.
