FAWC Director Joins AAC Board
At its annual conference in October 2004 held at the Santa Fe Art Institute, FAWC Executive Director Hunter O’Hanian was elected to the Board of Directors of the Alliance of Artists’ Communities for a three-year term. The AAC is the national service organization for artists’ residency programs throughout the United States and overseas.
The AAC’s principle mission is to support those organizations that provide residencies to artists. With more than 100 institutional members who collectively offer more than 12,000 artists’ residencies annually, the AAC serves the field through advocacy for additional funding for artists’ communities and assists emerging programs throughout the country. In addition, the AAC directly serves individual artists through the publication of the book Artists Communities and the maintenance of an active website, Artistcommunities.org—the "go-to" location for artists to locate residencies which will best serve their needs. The third edition of Artists Communities will be released in April 2005 and will be available from FAWC or directly from the AAC.
Hunter will join other colleagues in the field on the AAC Board, including Anderson Ranch ED James Baker, Ragdale Foundation ED Susan Page Tillett, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts ED Suny Monk, Atlantic Center for the Arts ED Ann Brady, Djerassi Artists Program ED Dennis O’Leary, and Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts ED Mark Masouka, along with other supporters, artists and patrons. In June 2003, FAWC hosted the AAC’s first regional conference for artists’ communities located in the northeastern United States.
