Fine Arts Work Center Receives Major
Challenge Grant for Capital Campaign

Date: July 24, 2006

The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown announced today that it received a major Challenge Grant as it enters the public phase of its $2 million Capital Campaign to fund the renovation of its facilities at 24 Pearl Street and to increase its endowment.

"We have been in the 'quiet phase' of the Campaign for the past few years," said Board Co-Chair Ike Williams, "and to date we have raised $1,400,000 in commitments. Anyone who visits the facility can see the great new print shop, computer lab, artists' studios and apartments, including one which is fully wheel-chair accessible. The transformation is amazing."

"But there is still a lot more to do," says Executive Director Hunter O'Hanian. "We hope to complete the renovations to the Days Lumberyard Building, create a permanent library, and make the entire second floor of the main building wheelchair accessible, in addition to making other improvements to our facilities. To achieve these goals, we need to raise an additional $600,000."

As an incentive to new supporters, an anonymous donor has awarded a major Challenge Grant: if the Work Center raises $600,000 by December 31, 2007, the donor will place $250,000 in FAWC's permanent endowment. However, if the $600,000 goal is reached by December 31, 2006, the grant will be increased by an additional $100,000 - adding $350,000 to FAWC's endowment.

"These are very ambitious goals," said O'Hanian, "but with the help of our Board and all of those who care about FAWC's legacy in the visual arts and literature, not only in Provincetown, but nationally, we can reach this goal. The Challenge Grant is an important gift because for every new dollar we raise for facilities, 58 cents will be added to the endowment. That is critical to the future of this the Work Center and a great opportunity for donors to leverage the value of their own contributions."

As a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization, all gifts made to the FAWC Capital Campaign are deductible to the fullest extent allowed under law. Naming opportunities are available. For more information or to make a gift, please call Hunter O'Hanian at 508-487-9960 ext. 102.
