Starting with a thought-provoking exhibition by Karin Horlbeck, the 2002 Maryland Institute Fellow, the schedule progressed with one sensational show after another. Bert Yarborough curated the Former Fellows 1980–1981 Exhibition, featuring the work of Mary Armstrong, James Elniski, Andrea Epstein, Harriet Pappas, Shelley Simpson, Lucinda Johnson, Jennie McDade, Deborah Morris, Carole Bolger, and Kenzo Horii. The Philip Malicoat and Jim Forsberg Exhibition, curated by Conrad Malicoat, his wife Anne Lord, and their daughter Robena Malicoat, was a stunning collection of paintings and drawings by both artists. The strong dark images of Malicoat’s portraits and landscapes contrasted wonderfully with Forsberg’s colorful and fanciful collages.

An exhibition of works from the Cape Museum of Fine Arts in Dennis, curated by artist Paul Resika, featured a selection of paintings, drawings and sculpture by Cape-related artists including George McNeil, James Lechay, Ross Moffett, Varujan Boghosian and others. Former Co-Chairs of the FAWC Board of Trustees, Gilbert Franklin and Michael Mazur offered a two-person show that focused on Mike’s painting and Gil’s sculptures. The exhibition was accompanied by a slide talk that discussed the careers and works of both artists.

The 2003 Visual Arts Jury Exhibition presented works by the three Visual Arts jurors Robert Gober, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith and Jacqueline Humphries. The Visual Arts Jury Exhibition gives us an opportunity to showcase the work of the individuals who select the Visual Arts Fellows. Denise Burge, the 2003 Ohio Arts Council Fellow, concocted a whimsical world of cartoon-like creatures and silhouettes in drawings and fabric collages titled "Your Mud is Alive! – Drawings and Quilts." The second half of the "Photography Now" Exhibition, curated by David Davis of the Schoolhouse Center, focused on portraits, and included photographs by Ted Rosenberg, Norma Holt, Marian Roth, David Carrino, and Paula Horn Kotis. A group show of artists involved with the Outer Cape Artists Residency Consortium, curated by Hatty Walker Fitts, exhibited their work in September.

The Hudson D. Walker Gallery schedule for 2004 promises another impressive season. Ormond White, the 2003 Maryland Institute Fellow, will open the summer, followed by a Former Fellows Exhibition to be curated by Former Fellow Kimberley Hart. An exhibition of Distinguished Service in the Arts Award winners Nancy Spero and Leon Golub and a two-person show displaying the works of husband-and-wife artists Bob Henry and Selina Trieff will be shows to watch for. The season will end with an exhibition of works by the renowned photographer Constantine Manos in September, winner of the 2003 Leica Medal of Excellence Award.
