The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown has announced that the
printmaking studio will be named in honor of Michael Mazur in recognition
of his extraordinary contributions to the organization and renown in
printmaking. A dedication ceremony is being planned for sometime this
Fall.
A former trustee and co-chair of the organization's board, Mazur is
nationally recognized as a master of contemporary printmaking. He was
instrumental in the 2006 construction of the Work Center's full-scale
printmaking studio that will bear his name.
Mike's genius and fame as an artist, his inexhaustible energies,
ingenuity and generation of new ideas, his fearless eloquence, his wit and
irreverent good humor from all these invaluable gifts the Fine Arts
Work Center has long and hugely benefited,' says Marty Davis, President
of the Fine Arts Work Center's board. 'We are thrilled to name this
space in his honor.

Mazur is a frequent innovator, having launched the New Provincetown Print
Project in the early 1990s, a five-year endeavor that established the Work
Center as a vital participant in Provincetown's heritage in innovative
printmaking. He also inaugurated the 'Monotype Marathons', the
centerpiece of the Work Center's annual summer auction, the
organization's largest fundraiser. The naming of the printmaking studio
in his honor cements his legacy at the Work Center.
Michael Mazur has been making prints, drawings and paintings for nearly 50
years. His work has been shown in over 150 solo and group exhibitions,
including the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney, Brooklyn and
Metropolitan museums in New York City. His work is included in many major
public and private collections internationally. He is represented in New
York by the Mary Ryan Gallery, in Boston by the Barbara Krakow Gallery,
and in Provincetown by the Albert Merola Gallery.
The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown is a nonprofit organization
dedicated to nurturing emerging artists and writers. Founded in 1968, its

low-residency MFA in the visual arts in collaboration with the
Massachusetts College of Art and Design. The Fine Arts Work Center in
