In addition to the Winter Residency and Summer Workshop Programs, FAWC offers a growing roster of other events. Special events at the Work Center have included "American Poets' Favorite Poems," with Robert Pinsky; the forum "Resources for Artists/Artists as Resources," with the Massachusetts Cultural Council; and the Winter Film Series. Contact the Work Center for more details about these or any of the following:
Returning Residency Program
The Fine Arts Work Center offers short-term residencies during the months of May, parts of June, and September, providing living and working space for short, intensive periods of time. Space is allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. All Former Winter, Senior, and Visiting Fellows are eligible.
Long-Term Residency Program
In an effort to assist Former Fellows who want to continue living and working in Provincetown, the Fine Arts Work Center offers long-term residencies to all former Fellows of the Winter Residency Program. Three-year leases are issued by lottery.
Visiting Artist Residencies
Through ongoing collaborations with various educational institutions, private foundations, state arts councils, and others, FAWC offers short-term residencies for visual artists and creative writers. Residencies usually last from one to two months, occurring between May 1 and October 1. Participating sponsoring institutions have included the Ohio State Arts Council, Maryland Institute of Art, Handhollow Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Gallery Exhibitions
In the Hudson D. Walker Gallery, Winter Visual Arts Fellows offer regular and ongoing exhibitions during the Fellowship year. During the summer months, FAWC mounts a complete schedule of Work Center and Provincetown-related exhibitions.
Public Readings and Lectures
In the Stanley Kunitz Common Room, Winter Writing Fellows offer public readings throughout the Fellowship year. Additionally, visiting artists and writers give readings and lectures during the winter months. All summer faculty present weekly readings and slide talks from late June through August.
