CATHERINE KEHOE
Things and the Space Between
June 24-29 | 9am-noon
Tuition: $650
($600 for returning students)
Open to All

The goal of this workshop is to be specific about the appearance of objects in relation to each other, using a minimum of information. Participants will reduce images to their simplest terms (shape, value and color) while looking for the surprising and unexpected, as defined by lighting conditions. We will focus on what the eye sees rather than what our minds tell us about what is seen. A large central still life will be provided, with the option of individual setups. Still-life objects will include organic forms, mass-produced objects, and everything in between; color in the setups will range from earth colors to intense hues not found in nature. Looking at historical and contemporary still-life paintings will place the practice in a larger context. Oil paint is the suggested medium.
