We are thrilled to announce the 2019 Summer Workshops!
This year, we offer an extraordinary summer of workshops, exhibitions, and events. Browse our catalog of nearly 100 inspiring classes in poetry, fiction, memoir, nonfiction, playwriting, songwriting, painting, drawing, printmaking, and photography.
Highlights include the launch of our WOMEN PLAYWRIGHTS SERIES, a rare opportunity to work with three riveting stars of American theater: Leigh Fondakowski, Sarah Ruhl, and Lili Taylor. The sensationally popular ANNUAL POETRY FESTIVAL expands to two weeks, including keynotes from Jorie Graham and Eileen Myles, and 15 workshops taught by many of our nation’s most inspired and awarded poets. A new series of drawing, painting and printmaking workshops: a quartet of VISUAL ARTS DUETS. Each class is taught by two of Provincetown’s favorite artists, and includes faculty conversations on the Art of Figure, Landscape Painting, and the Art of Collaboration.
The galvanizing WRITERS & ARTISTS AS ACTIVISTS WEEK debuted last summer, and returns with a keynote by Urvashi Vaid. This week dedicated to social activism and radical artmaking includes 8 workshops by writers and artists whose work focuses on social and political issues through the lens of creative action. Our acclaimed MASTER PRINTER SERIES continues in the Michael Mazur Print studio, a state-of-the-art facility, with exciting new faculty and returning favorites. Dive deep into nonfiction, and transform real life experiences into art. Join us for MEMOIR & CREATIVE NONFICTION WEEK, an exhilarating intensive featuring a keynote by Alexander Chee, and an outstanding faculty of 10 writers and artists teaching workshops in memoir, essay, creative nonfiction, painting, and drawing, which relate to narrative, portraits, and place.
The transcendent WORDS & MUSIC presents concerts featuring the unique voices of musicians who create revelatory work, including John Gorka and Patty Larkin. The Work Center will be electric with nightly readings and talks by our distinguished faculty. With 24-hour studio access, you’ll be free to create any time you like. Enjoy daily breakfasts in the lounge, receptions, mid-week BBQ, and our beloved student open studios and readings.
All summer workshops are held on the campus of the Fine Arts Work Center, located in the heart of Provincetown on the tip of Cape Cod, surrounded by 40 miles of pristine national seashore. As the nation’s oldest continuous art colony, Provincetown’s streets are lined with art galleries, museums, and performing arts spaces providing an array of cultural happenings.
Creativity thrives here. Join us this summer!
